The Houston Rockets kept their playoff hopes alive with a convincing 115-96 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of their Western Conference first-round series on Sunday night.

Amen Thompson led the way with a game-high 23 points, while Tari Eason added 20 as Houston delivered a balanced offensive performance. All five Rockets starters scored in double figures, with Reed Sheppard contributing 17 points on efficient shooting from beyond the arc. Alperen Sengun posted 19 points, and Jabari Smith Jr. added 16, as both players also grabbed eight rebounds.

Playing without Kevin Durant for the third straight game due to an ankle injury, the Rockets relied on strong teamwork and defensive intensity. Houston forced 24 turnovers, converting them into 30 points, while also dominating in transition with 23 fastbreak points. The Lakers struggled from long range, shooting just 5-for-22 from three-point distance.

Houston coach Ime Udoka credited his team’s focus and resilience after a narrow Game 3 loss, emphasizing their determination to avoid a series sweep. The Rockets carried that momentum throughout the game, taking control late in the first quarter and never relinquishing the lead.

LeBron James finished with 10 points and nine assists for the Lakers but struggled to find his rhythm. Marcus Smart also had an off night, as the duo combined to shoot just 5-of-17 from the field. Deandre Ayton recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds but was ejected in the third quarter after a flagrant-2 foul.

The Lakers, who were without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, had difficulty generating consistent offense. Head coach JJ Redick pointed to turnovers as a key issue, noting the team must improve ball security moving forward.

Houston steadily built its advantage, leading 56-47 at halftime before pulling away in the third quarter with a decisive scoring run. The Rockets extended their lead to as many as 28 points, putting the game out of reach.

Despite the loss, the Lakers still hold a 3-1 series lead as the matchup shifts back to Los Angeles for Game 5 on Wednesday. -Field Level Media/Reuters
