Jalen Johnson recorded a spectacular 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists as the Atlanta Hawks defeated the host Miami Heat 127-115 on Tuesday night.
It marked Johnson’s ninth triple-double of the season, the second-most in the NBA. CJ McCollum also contributed off the bench with 26 points, helping Atlanta snap a two-game losing streak.
The Hawks, who led by as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter, are the only team in the league with a winning record on the road (16-13) and a losing mark at home (9-14).
Miami was led by Jaime Jaquez Jr., who scored a team-high 21 points off the bench. Pelle Larsson added 18 points, Bam Adebayo finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Davion Mitchell had a team-high 10 assists.
The Heat were without Andrew Wiggins due to left hamstring tightness. He joined All-Star Norman Powell (personal reasons) and Tyler Herro (ribs) on the sidelines. Powell has missed three straight games, while Herro has been out for 11 consecutive contests.
With several starters absent, undrafted rookie Myron Gardner made his second career start, scoring 14 points, while veteran Simone Fontecchio started for the third time with Miami and contributed 18 points.
The Hawks also played without key players Kristaps Porzingis (illness) and Onyeka Okongwu (facial fracture).
Atlanta set the tone early, leading 33-23 after the first quarter, holding Miami to just 37% shooting and 1-of-9 from three-point range. The Hawks extended their advantage to 67-50 at halftime, shooting 50% in the second quarter and making 7 of 15 three-pointers. Johnson led all scorers in the first half with 15 points.
Miami cut the third-quarter deficit to five points, but Atlanta responded to close the period with a 98-81 lead. The Heat got as close as 13 points in the fourth quarter before the Hawks pulled away to secure the win.
Atlanta finished the game with 21 three-pointers compared to Miami’s eight. McCollum led the Hawks’ perimeter attack, hitting six of nine shots from beyond the arc.
