Tyler Herro hit two clutch 3-pointers and Bam Adebayo recorded a 23-point, 16-rebound double-double as the Miami Heat overcame the visiting Philadelphia 76ers 119-109 on Monday night.
Herro finished with a game-high 30 points, while Pelle Larsson added 20 for the Heat (40-36), who moved into a virtual eighth-place tie in the Eastern Conference with the Orlando Magic.
Joel Embiid led the 76ers (41-34) with 26 points, and Tyrese Maxey contributed 23, keeping Philadelphia in seventh place. Their lead over the Heat and Magic was trimmed to just 1 1/2 games.
Philadelphia looked to have control after rallying from a 15-point deficit late in the third quarter to take a 104-101 lead on a Maxey 3-pointer with 5:33 remaining. Embiid extended the lead to four at the 3:22 mark.
But Miami, playing the second night of a back-to-back, dominated the closing minutes. After an Adebayo dunk cut the deficit to two, Herro’s 3-pointer at 2:36 gave the Heat the lead for good. He then extended the advantage to 111-107 with another long-range shot at 2:08.
Hoops by Jaime Jaquez Jr., Larsson, and Herro completed a 14-0 run that sealed the victory. Jaquez and Andrew Wiggins each scored 14 points, while Adebayo also led the Heat with six assists. Larsson added a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Miami outrebounded Philadelphia 57-42 and captured the season series, 2-1, securing a potentially important tiebreaker in the standings.
For the 76ers, Maxey added seven rebounds and a game-high nine assists. Kelly Oubre Jr. came off the bench for a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Paul George scored 19, VJ Edgecombe 13, and Quentin Grimes 11.
