Forward Jonathan Kuminga, who has not yet played since being acquired by the Atlanta Hawks on February 5, is making progress in his recovery from a left knee bone bruise. The team announced Wednesday that he will be re-evaluated in about a week.
Kuminga sustained the injury on January 22 while playing for the Golden State Warriors against the Dallas Mavericks. He and guard Buddy Hield were traded to the Hawks in exchange for center Kristaps Porzingis at the trade deadline.
The 23-year-old Kuminga has appeared in 20 games this season, starting 13, and is averaging 12.1 points in 23.8 minutes per game. His averages of 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists would be career highs.
Golden State selected Kuminga with the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He was part of the Warriors’ 2022 NBA championship team as a rookie. Over his career, Kuminga has played in 278 regular-season games, starting 97, and is averaging 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 22.1 minutes per game.
