Hall of Famer Chris Bosh revealed he is grateful to be alive after a recent health scare left him covered in his own blood.
The retired NBA star said the incident happened while he was preparing for a date with his wife. Bosh did not reveal the cause of his collapse in a social media video.
The 41-year-old former player, whose NBA career was shortened due to blood-clot issues, said he is still recovering from the mysterious event.
“I woke up covered in my own blood,” Bosh said. “It was crazy. It was fast. It was instant. There was no warning. I didn’t have any time to prepare for it. I was getting ready to go on a date with my wife, and the next thing I know, I am on the ground. I’m lucky to be alive, and I feel great about that.”
Bosh described falling to the bathroom floor.
“A numbing sensation shot down my left leg, that sharp, electric feeling you get when you bump your funny bone,” he wrote on his Substack. “Before I knew it, I was on the floor. I slowly came to in a pool of my own blood while my wife frantically spoke with 911. I tried to move my body the way I always had, and it didn’t respond. There was no choice but to surrender. It was a terrifying event, something I had never experienced before.”
Bosh battled blood clots during the later years of his career and played his last NBA game at age 31 in the 2015-16 season.
An 11-time All-Star, Bosh won two championships with the Miami Heat alongside LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. The 6-foot-11 star began his career with the Toronto Raptors, playing seven seasons in Canada before spending six seasons with the Heat.
Over 893 career games (881 starts), Bosh averaged 19.2 points and 8.5 rebounds. He was selected fourth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft out of Georgia Tech and was elected into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021.
