VJ Edgecombe scored a game-high 25 points, Andre Drummond recorded a double-double in place of Joel Embiid, and the Philadelphia 76ers pulled away from the Golden State Warriors for a 113-94 victory on Tuesday night in San Francisco.
Six other Philadelphia players finished in double figures as the 76ers extended their winning streak to five games and completed a road back-to-back sweep of the Los Angeles Clippers and Warriors.
Golden State continued to play shorthanded, missing Jimmy Butler III for a seventh straight game due to a knee injury, while Stephen Curry sat out for the second time in four games because of a sore knee. Embiid was also given the night off after logging 32 minutes and scoring 24 points in Philadelphia’s 128-113 win over the Clippers on Monday.
The 76ers held just a three-point lead at halftime before opening the third quarter with a 9-0 run to take control. Kelly Oubre Jr. knocked down a three-pointer and Edgecombe added a short jumper during the surge, stretching the lead to 12 points before Gui Santos connected on a three-pointer at the 7:32 mark for Golden State’s first basket of the second half.
Philadelphia’s balanced offense kept the Warriors at bay the rest of the way. The 76ers dominated the offensive glass 25-8 and held a 16-1 edge in free-throw points, overcoming Golden State’s slight shooting advantage. The Warriors shot 47.4 percent from the field compared to Philadelphia’s 45.2 percent, and 39.6 percent to 34.2 percent from beyond the arc.
Golden State attempted just two free throws in the entire game, both taken by Buddy Hield, marking only the ninth time in NBA history that a team attempted two or fewer foul shots in a game.
Drummond finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, including six on the offensive end, in 29 minutes. Dominick Barlow added 10 points and grabbed six offensive rebounds. Tyrese Maxey scored 14 points and went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line, while Trendon Watford had 16 points. Oubre contributed 15 points, Adem Bona added 11, and Quentin Grimes scored 10.
Edgecombe shot 11-for-20 from the field and also handed out a game-high seven assists.
For Golden State, Gui Santos and Pat Spencer led the way with 13 points each as the Warriors suffered their fifth loss in seven games. Moses Moody scored 12 points, while Al Horford, Quinten Post, and De’Anthony Melton added 10 points apiece. Melton also posted six rebounds and a team-high six assists, and Draymond Green led the Warriors on the boards with seven rebounds to go along with six points.
