Brandon Nimmo and Wyatt Langford hit home runs, while Kumar Rocker and Marco Gonzales combined for a three-hit shutout as the Texas Rangers defeated the Chicago White Sox 10-0 on Tuesday.
The Rangers responded after Chicago's 10-3 win in Monday's series opener by delivering a dominant performance of their own. Texas collected 18 hits and went 7-for-10 with runners in scoring position to secure the victory.
Nimmo gave the Rangers an early lead they would not surrender, hitting a two-run home run off White Sox starter Noah Schultz with two outs in the first inning. The Texas right fielder finished the game 4-for-4, while Alejandro Osuna added three hits and three RBIs. Langford contributed two hits and two RBIs, while Ezequiel Duran and Nicky Lopez each recorded two hits and an RBI.
Schultz, a rookie left-hander, struggled in one of the toughest outings of his young career. He fell to 3-7 after allowing five runs on a career-high 11 hits over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out two batters and did not issue a walk, marking the third time in his last five starts he avoided giving up a free pass.
Rocker earned his first win since May 19 against the Colorado Rockies, improving to 3-8 on the season. After posting a 9.00 ERA in two July starts covering 10 innings, the right-hander bounced back with a strong performance, holding Chicago scoreless over six innings.
Munetaka Murakami recorded Chicago's only hit against Rocker with a leadoff single in the fourth inning. Rocker allowed two walks and struck out six, throwing 50 of his 75 pitches for strikes. He retired eight straight batters before Murakami's hit and seven consecutive batters afterward.
Texas scored in every inning Rocker pitched except the second inning and broke the game open with a four-run fifth. Langford capped the rally with a two-run homer off Tyler Schweitzer, one batter after Osuna delivered a two-run single to right field.
Gonzales earned his first career save by allowing two hits and two walks over three scoreless innings. Chicago's remaining hits came from shortstop Luisangel Acuna and Miguel Vargas.
Rangers third baseman Josh Jung exited the game in the fifth inning due to left calf tightness.
