Pirates 3, Rockies 1

Paul Skenes flirted with a no-hitter for the second consecutive start, striking out 10 and allowing just two hits over eight scoreless innings to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 3-1 win over the visiting Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.

Skenes (6-2), the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, held the Rockies hitless for 6 1/3 innings until Mickey Moniak looped a ball just out of the reach of a diving Oneil Cruz in center field. Skenes has now recorded back-to-back starts of eight scoreless innings with only two hits allowed. He has not allowed a run in four of his past five starts, lowered his ERA to 1.98, and did not walk a batter for the fifth straight start.

Colorado starter Michael Lorenzen (2-5) gave up two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five innings. Pittsburgh received minimal run support from Nick Gonzales, who had two hits and an RBI, and Spencer Horwitz, who also had two hits. Brandon Lowe and Bryan Reynolds each drove in a run.

Rays 7, Blue Jays 6 (10 innings)

Jonathan Aranda’s sacrifice fly proved decisive as Tampa Bay improved to 5-0 this season against Toronto. Taylor Walls’ single to right scored Cedric Mullins to give Tampa Bay a 6-5 lead, before Aranda’s fly ball allowed Walls to score.

Ian Seymour (2-0) pitched a perfect ninth for the Rays, who had previously blown a five-run lead in the seventh inning.

Braves 5, Cubs 2

Mike Yastrzemski homered and drove in three runs, Austin Riley also homered, and Dominic Smith went 4-for-4 as Atlanta defeated visiting Chicago to extend its MLB-leading record to 29-13.

Yastrzemski’s homer broke a 2-2 tie during the Braves’ four-run sixth inning. Didier Fuentes (2-0) tossed three hitless relief innings before Raisel Iglesias finished with a perfect ninth. Cubs starter Colin Rea (4-2) allowed five runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings. Alex Bregman homered for Chicago, which has scored only two runs in its last three games.

Twins 3, Marlins 0

Bailey Ober struck out seven in a complete-game shutout, leading Minnesota over Miami. Byron Buxton stole home, and Ryan Jeffers hit a two-run homer to power the Twins. Ober (4-2) recorded his first complete-game shutout in 124 starts, walking none and throwing 64 of 89 pitches for strikes. Miami’s Kyle Stowers and Jakob Marsee recorded one hit each in the team’s fourth shutout loss of the season.

Guardians 3, Angels 2

Angel Martinez hit a solo homer, and Patrick Bailey drove in his first run since a trade to help Cleveland continue its dominance over Los Angeles. Vaughn Grissom homered for the Angels, who have won only four games in Cleveland since 2015. Hunter Gaddis (1-1) allowed one hit over 1 1/3 scoreless innings, and Cade Smith earned his 12th save in 14 chances.

Nationals 10, Reds 4

Daylen Lile and Luis Garcia Jr. each hit two home runs as Washington crushed Cincinnati. Lile’s performance marked his first career multi-homer game, while Garcia also recorded three hits. James Wood and Brady House added home runs. Lile and Garcia are the first Nationals duo to have multi-homer games in the same contest since Brian Dozier and Juan Soto in 2019.

Yankees 6, Orioles 2

Paul Goldschmidt and Trent Grisham homered as New York built an early lead to snap a four-game losing streak against Baltimore. Will Warren (5-1) carried a shutout into the sixth inning. Baltimore’s two-game winning streak ended despite two hits each from Samuel Basallo and Taylor Ward.

Mets 10, Tigers 2

A.J. Ewing had two RBIs and scored twice in his major league debut, leading New York past Detroit. Carson Benge and Juan Soto added two hits, a run, and an RBI each, while Freddy Peralta (3-3) struck out seven in six innings. Dillon Dingler homered for Detroit, which has lost six of seven.

Phillies 2, Red Sox 1

Kyle Schwarber matched a franchise record with a fifth consecutive game homer, and Zack Wheeler pitched into the eighth to help Philadelphia edge Boston. Schwarber leads the majors with 17 home runs this season.

White Sox 6, Royals 5

Derek Hill hit a pinch-hit, tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning, lifting Chicago over Kansas City. Chase Meidroth and Drew Romo also homered, extending the White Sox winning streak to three games.

Brewers 6, Padres 4

Brandon Sproat earned his first career victory, while Joey Ortiz homered for the first time since last July, helping Milwaukee overcome a 2-1 deficit. Sproat (1-2) allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings and struck out six.

Rangers 7, Diamondbacks 4

MacKenzie Gore allowed just one run over eight innings to lead Texas past Arizona. Joc Pederson and Ezequiel Duran homered, while Brandon Nimmo left the game with a sprained left ankle but is day-to-day. Arizona’s Zac Gallen (1-4) allowed three runs in five innings.
