NEW YORK — LeBron James praised the Los Angeles Lakers during a live taping of his "Mind the Game" podcast on Thursday but declined to reveal where he will play next after leaving the franchise.

James appeared alongside Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton at Fanatics Fest in New York, where an estimated crowd of 5,000 attended the live recording. Early in the show, Haliburton asked James if there was "a decision" that still needed to be made, a reference to James' televised 2010 announcement that he would join the Miami Heat.

James quickly dismissed the question, noting that they had already agreed backstage not to discuss his free agency. Haliburton laughed and apologized, saying he would leave the topic alone.

Later in the event, Haliburton shared that he had texted James last month about the possibility of joining the Pacers in Indianapolis. According to Haliburton, James responded only with two laughing-crying emojis.

James recently allowed his contract with the Lakers to expire and informed the team that he plans to play elsewhere during the 2026-27 NBA season. If he returns, it will mark his record 24th NBA season and could be the fourth franchise of his career.

The four-time NBA champion acknowledged that the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat are among the teams under consideration but declined to provide further details. As fans shouted out potential destinations during the event, James smiled and responded, "We'll see what happens."

Despite his departure, James spoke warmly about his eight seasons with the Lakers, thanking owner Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, general manager Rob Pelinka, his coaches, teammates, and the organization.

"I spent eight great years with the Los Angeles Lakers," James said. "One of the most historic franchises in the world. ... It was an unbelievable ride, and I'm just looking forward to what holds next as I wind down the final stages of my journey."

James' next destination remains uncertain, but he made it clear that he was not ready to announce his decision during the public appearance.
