The New York Knicks have emerged as champions not only on the court but also in the sports merchandise market.
After defeating the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the NBA Finals on Saturday night, the New York franchise set a new record for first-day merchandise sales. According to Fanatics, the Knicks generated more sales in the first 24 hours following their championship victory than any other league champion has ever recorded within the same timeframe.
The previous 24-hour sales record was held by the Philadelphia Eagles after their dominant 40–22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025. The Knicks’ performance surpassed that mark, underscoring the massive demand driven by their long-awaited title run.
Fanatics also reported that Knicks merchandise sales doubled those of the top-selling NBA champion, the Los Angeles Lakers, who last won a title in 2020. Fans, who had waited 53 years for a championship, quickly drove demand for celebratory items such as T-shirts, caps, and other commemorative apparel, with more than 8,000 orders placed per minute at peak levels.
While the company did not disclose total unit sales or overall revenue, it noted that the Knicks are now approaching the all-time championship merchandise benchmark set by the 2016 Chicago Cubs, which remains the current leader in overall title-related sales. -Field Level Media/Reuters
