Joel Hofer recorded 24 saves to earn his fifth career shutout as the St. Louis Blues edged the visiting Winnipeg Jets, 1-0, on Wednesday night.
Justin Faulk scored the lone goal for the Blues, who won for the second time in their last three games. Connor Hellebuyck finished with 25 saves for the Jets, who have dropped five of their past six outings (1-4-1).
St. Louis broke the scoreless tie with 6:43 remaining in the second period. Pavel Buchnevich forced a turnover along the back wall on the forecheck, allowing Robert Thomas to find Faulk skating down the middle for the decisive goal.
Panthers 3, Kings 2
Carter Verhaeghe scored the go-ahead goal in the second period as Florida rallied past Los Angeles in Sunrise, Florida.
Verhaeghe has now scored nine goals in his last 11 games and owns 11 goals on the season. Anton Lundell and Sam Bennett also found the net for the Panthers, who are 6-1-0 over their last seven games. Brad Marchand added two assists, while backup goalie Daniil Tarasov stopped 27 shots to improve to 4-5-1.
Joel Armia and Kevin Fiala scored for the Kings. Anton Forsberg made 25 saves in the loss.
Mammoth 4, Red Wings 1
Clayton Keller posted a goal and an assist, and Karel Vejmelka turned aside 27 shots as Utah defeated host Detroit.
Jack McBain also scored, Dylan Guenther netted his sixth goal in six games, and Kevin Stenlund added a late insurance tally. Vejmelka, who had allowed 14 goals in his previous four starts, delivered a strong performance to win his third straight start.
Emmitt Finnie scored for Detroit, which suffered just its second regulation loss in 10 games (6-2-2). Cam Talbot finished with 23 saves.
Hurricanes 4, Predators 1
Sebastian Aho collected two goals and an assist to lift Carolina past Nashville, extending the Hurricanes’ winning streak to five games.
Jackson Blake contributed a goal and an assist, Seth Jarvis also scored, and Andrei Svechnikov recorded two assists. Pyotr Kochetkov made 25 saves for Carolina.
Filip Forsberg scored for the Predators, while Juuse Saros stopped 33 shots. Nashville has lost just four of its last 11 games (7-4-0).
Devils 2, Golden Knights 1 (SO)
Jake Allen made 36 saves and denied all three shootout attempts to lead New Jersey to a victory over Vegas in Las Vegas.
Connor Brown scored in regulation, and Jesper Bratt converted the shootout winner as the Devils moved into the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Pavel Dorofeyev scored a late power-play goal for Vegas, and Carter Hart made 32 saves, but the Golden Knights saw their seven-game point streak come to an end. -Field Level Media/Reuters
