Sergio Garcia, one of the biggest names to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in 2022, believes the Saudi-backed league will continue into 2027 despite uncertainty over its future funding.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which has financed LIV Golf since its launch, will reportedly stop providing financial support after this season. The move has raised concerns that the league could struggle to complete its current schedule.
Reports indicate that LIV Golf is seeking about $300 million from investors to fund a 10-tournament schedule in 2027.
“Obviously, I think they’ve had a lot of meetings with different possible investors,” Garcia said, according to Bunkered.co.uk. “I’m 99% sure that LIV is going to continue. It’s just going to look different than it has the last four years. But I’m very, very confident that it’s going to keep going. We’ll see how it develops.”
Amid questions surrounding LIV Golf’s future, Garcia returned to the DP World Tour last week to compete in the BMW International Open in Germany. The Spanish golfer is expected to play in at least three more DP World Tour events this season.
Garcia also plans to regain his DP World Tour status for 2027.
“At 46, I can’t play 30 events a year, but I’m going to make an effort to see if I can at least play a handful and try to do my best there,” Garcia said.
The 2017 Masters champion, who has recorded top-three finishes in all four major championships during his career, has won 38 professional tournaments, including 11 PGA Tour titles, 16 European Tour victories, and two LIV Golf wins.
Garcia finished tied for 52nd at this year’s Masters and did not compete in the PGA Championship or the U.S. Open. He also failed to qualify for this month’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.
