VIAREGGIO, Italy – Italian cyclist Filippo Ganna secured a comfortable win in Tuesday’s stage 10 individual time trial at the Giro d’Italia, while pre-race favorite Jonas Vingegaard failed to claim the overall lead. Portugal’s Afonso Eulalio fought hard to maintain his hold on the pink jersey.
Ganna, riding for Netcompany-Ineos, crossed the finish line with ease, earning his eighth Giro stage victory, seven of which have come in time trials. His teammate, Thymen Arensman, finished second, one minute and 54 seconds behind.
Dutch rider Arensman narrowly held off Frenchman Remi Cavagna of Groupama-FDJ United by five seconds for second place. Vingegaard, representing Visma-Lease a Bike, struggled in the stage and finished 13th, three minutes behind Ganna.
Despite the challenge, Eulalio of Bahrain Victorious, who started the day two minutes and 24 seconds ahead of Vingegaard, limited his losses and retains a 27-second lead in the general classification. -Reporting by Trevor Stynes, editing by Ed Osmond/Reuters
