CRICKET: Australia's Green becomes IPL's most expensive overseas player after $2.77 million move to Kolkata
Australia all-rounder Cameron Green became the IPL’s most expensive overseas signing after Kolkata Knight Riders secured him for 252 million rupees ahead of the 2026 season. The 26-year-old, returning after back surgery, ranks as the third most expensive player in IPL history following a fierce bidding war.

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green became the most expensive overseas signing in Indian Premier League history after Kolkata Knight Riders secured his services for 252 million Indian rupees ($2.77 million) during the IPL player auction for the 2026 season on Tuesday.
Green drew heavy interest after being mistakenly registered as a batsman, sparking an intense bidding war between Kolkata and Chennai Super Kings. The three-time champions eventually won the contest to sign the 26-year-old.
The price tag makes Green the third most expensive player ever bought at an IPL auction, behind Indian internationals Rishabh Pant, who fetched 270 million rupees, and Shreyas Iyer at 267.5 million rupees.
Green previously played for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru but missed the 2025 IPL season while recovering from back surgery. He is expected to return to competitive action in the third Ashes Test against England, which begins on Wednesday.
