The Houston Astros rallied for a 6–4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday, powered by a decisive six-run fourth inning capped by a grand slam from Yordan Alvarez.
Alvarez’s blast was his third grand slam of the season and the seventh of his career, tying the franchise record held by Alex Bregman, Carlos Lee, and Jose Altuve. The home run also marked his 26th of the season and turned a two-run deficit into a commanding lead.
The Astros split the three-game series at one win apiece, with a resilient outing from right-hander Mike Burrows, who recovered from a difficult first inning to earn his first win since May 27.
Minnesota starter Joe Ryan controlled the early innings before Houston’s offense broke through in the fourth. The rally began with consecutive one-out hits, including an RBI single from Yainer Diaz that trimmed the Twins’ lead to 3–1.
After a brief stoppage in momentum following a called third strike against Nick Allen, Houston kept the inning alive with walks drawn by Raynel Delgado and Altuve. Altuve later earned a bases-loaded walk following a successful ABS review, setting the stage for Alvarez’s decisive swing.
Alvarez connected on a 1–1 sinker and sent it 395 feet to right-center field, completing the Astros’ explosive fourth inning. Ryan finished the game allowing six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five over four innings.
The Twins had jumped out early against Burrows, loading the bases in the first inning before scoring three runs on a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a two-run single from Ryan Kreidler. Minnesota’s early pressure, however, faded as Burrows settled in and worked through five innings.
Houston’s bullpen closed the door, highlighted by a dominant ninth inning from closer Josh Hader, who struck out two in a perfect frame to secure his eighth save of the season. The Twins’ late push fell short as Houston held on to complete the comeback win. -Field Level Media/Reuters
