Chicago White Sox right-hander Mike Vasil will undergo Tommy John surgery in the coming weeks, the team announced Tuesday.
Vasil, who turns 26 on Thursday, is expected to miss the entire 2026 season.
He left Saturday's preseason game with right elbow soreness after pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing two hits, three strikeouts, and two walks.
Vasil made his major league debut last season, finishing 5-3 with a 2.50 ERA in 47 games, including three starts. He struck out 82 batters and walked 52 over 101 innings, while also recording four saves.
Originally drafted by the New York Mets in the eighth round in 2021 out of Virginia, Vasil was claimed off waivers by the White Sox from the Tampa Bay Rays last March.
