Free-agent infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa is set to join his fifth team in four seasons after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Boston Red Sox, multiple outlets reported Wednesday. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Kiner-Falefa, 30, batted .262 with two home runs and 40 RBIs in 138 games last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays. In the postseason, he struggled at the plate, hitting just .162 (6-for-37) overall and .063 (1-for-16) in six World Series games.
The Honolulu native showed his defensive versatility during Toronto’s postseason run, playing exclusively at second base. During the regular season, he started 93 games at shortstop, 30 at third base, and only one at second.
Over eight major league seasons, Kiner-Falefa has a career batting average of .262 with 36 home runs and 286 RBIs in 918 games. He began his MLB career with the Texas Rangers, who drafted him in the fourth round in 2013, before moving to the New York Yankees (2022-23) and later splitting time between the Pirates and Blue Jays (2024-25).
