The Philadelphia Phillies and left-handed pitcher Jesus Luzardo have agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $135 million, multiple outlets reported Monday.

Luzardo, 28, was entering the final year of his contract and would have become a free agent at the end of 2026. The new deal keeps him with the Phillies through the 2031 season.

Coming off a career year, Luzardo went 15-7 with a 3.92 ERA, 216 strikeouts, and 57 walks over 183⅔ innings in 32 starts. He also pitched in Games 2 and 4 of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, starting Game 2 and appearing as a reliever in extra innings of Game 4. Despite taking the loss in both outings, he allowed only three runs (two earned) over 7⅔ innings, recording eight strikeouts and one walk for a 2.35 ERA.

Philadelphia acquired Luzardo from NL East rival Miami Marlins in a December 2024 trade. In seven major league seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2019-21), Marlins (2021-24), and Phillies (2025), he has a 41-41 record with a 4.19 ERA, 775 strikeouts, and 237 walks in 137 appearances, including 121 starts.

The Phillies continue to strengthen their rotation alongside Cristopher Sanchez and veterans Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola. Sanchez and Wheeler were NL Cy Young runners-up in 2025 and 2024, respectively.
