Dominic Canzone hit his first career grand slam, and Randy Arozarena added a four-hit, three-RBI performance to support Bryan Woo, who pitched six strong innings, as the visiting Seattle Mariners rolled to a 10-2 victory over the struggling Houston Astros on Tuesday.
The win marked Seattle’s ninth consecutive victory over Houston, extending the Astros’ losing streak to four games. Arozarena got Seattle started with a two-run homer in the second inning, and after Houston briefly tied the game, Canzone delivered the decisive blow with his grand slam in the fourth.
Astros right-hander Tatsuya Imai (1-1) made his first start since April 10, when he lasted just one out against the Mariners before going on the injured list with arm fatigue. His return was short-lived, as control issues resurfaced.
Imai walked Cal Raleigh to start the second inning, and Arozarena immediately punished him with his fourth home run of the season to left field. Although Imai induced a double play in the third to erase Brendan Donovan, the fourth inning quickly unraveled. With the bases loaded and no outs, Imai hit both Arozarena and Luke Raley with pitches, then walked J.P. Crawford on four pitches. Canzone capitalized on the first pitch he saw, driving a 381-foot slider for a grand slam to give the Mariners a 6-2 lead.
Arozarena continued his hot night by doubling and scoring in the fifth inning and adding an RBI double in the seventh. Imai finished with six runs allowed on five hits and three walks, striking out three over four innings.
Bryan Woo (3-2) allowed an RBI single to Braden Shewmake in the second and a game-tying RBI double to Christian Walker in the third, ending Walker’s 0-for-17 drought. Woo rebounded impressively, retiring the final 11 batters he faced and tying a season high with nine strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Raleigh ended a season-long 0-for-38 hitless streak—the longest in the majors this year—when he singled in the seventh inning.
