Max Kepler, Geraldo Perdomo, and Nolan Arenado homered as the Arizona Diamondbacks cruised to an 8-0 victory over the San Diego Padres on Monday night.
Brandon Pfaadt (2-1) earned his second straight win after tossing five scoreless innings. He allowed four hits, walked none, and struck out six before two relievers combined to complete the shutout.
Walker Buehler (5-5) took the loss after surrendering seven runs on seven hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out four. The outing continued his recent struggles, with 16 runs allowed over his last nine innings after a June 26 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Arizona wasted no time taking control of the game. Ketel Marte opened the contest with a triple, and Geraldo Perdomo reached after being hit by a pitch. During Corbin Carroll's at-bat, Perdomo attempted to steal second, and Buehler's errant throw to shortstop Sung-Mun Song allowed Marte to score the game's first run. Gabriel Moreno later walked, and Kepler drove in another run with a two-out single to make it 2-0.
The Diamondbacks extended their lead with a four-run third inning. Carroll doubled, Moreno singled, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added an RBI single before Kepler launched a three-run homer to right field for his first home run of the season.
Perdomo added a solo homer in the fourth inning to stretch the lead to 7-0, while Arenado capped the scoring with a solo shot in the sixth for his 10th home run of the year.
The Padres struggled offensively throughout the game and did not advance a runner into scoring position until the seventh inning. Jackson Merrill reached on an infield single and moved to second on a groundout, but Arizona escaped the threat when Rodolfo Duran struck out to end the inning. -Field Level Media/Reuters
