Brice Turang delivered a two-out walk-off home run in the ninth inning off New York Yankees closer David Bednar to lift the host Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-3 victory on Sunday and complete a three-game series sweep.
Bednar (1-3) entered to start the ninth and struck out the first two batters he faced before Brice Turang ended the game on the first pitch he saw, sending a 411-foot shot to center field for his sixth home run of the season and the first walk-off homer of his career.
Abner Uribe (2-1) earned the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Yankees had tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning. Aaron Judge walked with one out but was caught stealing shortly after. Cody Bellinger drew a walk, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. followed with an RBI double into the right-field corner.
New York starter Carlos Rodón, activated from the injured list for his season debut following offseason surgery, opened strong by retiring the first nine batters he faced, allowing only two walks through three innings before running into trouble.
Milwaukee broke through in the fourth after loading the bases with no outs against Rodón. William Contreras and Gary Sánchez drew consecutive walks, and Andrew Vaughn was hit by a pitch. Luis Rengifo reached on a fielder’s choice that forced Contreras at the plate, before Garrett Mitchell drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly. A wild pitch advanced the runners, and Blake Perkins capped the rally with a two-run single to center, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 lead.
Rodón exited after allowing a one-out single and a walk in the fifth. He finished with three runs allowed on two hits over four-plus innings, striking out four while issuing five walks, plus a hit batter and a wild pitch on 78 pitches.
New York jumped out early when Aaron Judge opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-out solo home run—his league-leading 16th of the season—off Brewers starter Logan Henderson.
The Yankees extended their lead to 2-0 in the second when Jose Caballero doubled with one out and top prospect Spencer Jones followed with an RBI single for his first major league hit.
Despite early control issues, Milwaukee stayed within striking distance before Turang’s dramatic ninth-inning blast sealed the comeback win and capped the Brewers’ series sweep. -Field Level Media/Reuters
