Alex Eala gives Maya Joint a third-set bagel to advance to Wimbledon round of 32

Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala barged her way into Wimbledon's round of 32 after defeating Maya Joint of Australia. Eala won in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 on Thursday, July 2 at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in London.

Eala finally got payback when she avenged her finals loss to Joint in last year's Eastbourne Open.

It was a come from behind win with Joint setting the tone early in the first set at 6-3. Eala then took control of the second set 6-2. Eala finally gave Joint a bagel in the third, winning the set and match at 6-0.

Eala has found a new weapon with her improving service, firing four aces against Joint's one. She has also asserted her dominance in most 40-all or deuce score situations, getting the two deciding points and the game.

The world number 32 Eala is the first Filipino to win a match in Wimbledon after dominating Mexico's Renata Zarazua in the round of 64 two days ago. As the 29th seed, she is also the first Filipino to be seeded in the grand slam event.

Her next assignment will be the Wimbledon defending champion and world number three, Iga Swiatek of Poland on Saturday, July 4. Eala scored an upset against Swiatek at last year's Miami Open, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.
