Vice President Sara Duterte observed All Saints' Day (Undas) by visiting the grave of her paternal grandparents in Davao City and honoring victims of the 1991 Ormoc tragedy in Leyte.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Duterte shared a photograph of herself at the mausoleum of her grandparents, Vicente and Soledad Duterte, at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Davao City.

“Kamakailan ay binisita natin ang libingan ng aking lolo at lola na sina Vicente at Soledad Duterte upang mag-alay ng panalangin at hilingin ang kanilang payapang pamamahinga sa kabilang buhay,” Duterte wrote in the caption.

She also quoted a passage from Revelation 21:4: "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."

Ahead of her Davao visit, the Vice President visited the Ormoc City Public Cemetery Mass Grave Memorial to honor the victims of the catastrophic 1991 flash flood, ahead of its 35th anniversary on Nov. 5. Accompanied by personnel from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) Eastern Visayas Satellite Office, she offered flowers, lit candles, and prayed for the victims and their surviving families.

Duterte concluded her message with a call for national resilience and solidarity.

"Mga kababayan, patuloy tayong maging matatag sa kabila ng anumang pagsubok na dumaan sa ating mga buhay. Ipagdasal din natin ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa," she said.

The 1991 Ormoc flash flood remains one of the deadliest disasters in Philippine history. Heavy rainfall caused the Anilao and Malbasag rivers to burst their banks, taking thousands of lives.
