The United States has reaffirmed its "ironclad" commitment to its defense alliance with the Philippines, highlighting shared efforts to bolster peace, maritime security, and economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region.
In a statement released Monday (November 2, 2026), the U.S. Embassy in Manila highlighted the recent visit of U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to Cebu for the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) as a key demonstration of Washington's commitment to strengthening ties across Southeast Asia.
The embassy emphasized ongoing bilateral cooperation spanning joint military exercises, maritime domain awareness, disaster response, and public health initiatives.
Under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the alliance remains anchored in shared democratic values, mutual respect, and a joint commitment to regional stability.
As both nations prepare to observe the 75th anniversary of the 1951 U.S.–Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty, Washington reiterated its support for Philippine sovereignty, territorial integrity, and freedom of navigation in international waters.
Beyond defense, the embassy underscored the vital role of bilateral trade and investment in promoting mutual prosperity, calling the Philippines a trusted ally, partner, and friend bound by deep historical and people-to-people ties. RA Sibag/Paraluman News
