Ukrainian and Russian teams will have their first trilateral meeting with U.S. officials in the United Arab Emirates, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Thursday (January 22).

Zelenskiy told a Q&A session that the U.S. team "waited for our meeting with President Trump. And now they will go and my team will meet the American team."

The meetings would take place on Friday (January 23) and Saturday (January 24), Zelenskiy said, speaking after giving an address at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss Alpine resort Davos.

Zelenskiy had said earlier this week he would only travel to Davos if he could sign agreements with Trump on U.S. security guarantees and post-war reconstruction funding for Ukraine, but there was no indication after the meeting that a breakthrough had been made.

The two leaders have met around half a dozen times face-to-face since Trump returned to the White House last year and upended U.S. policy on Ukraine by embracing diplomacy with Russia.
