Donald Trump said on Thursday (April 16) that he hopes Hezbollah “acts nicely” as a ten-day ceasefire went into effect between Israel and Lebanon.

Doing so will be a “GREAT moment for them”, Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social site. “No more killing. Must finally have PEACE!” he added.

Israel and Lebanon agreed to begin a ten-day ceasefire at 5 p.m. EST (2100 GMT) on Thursday following talks this week brokered by Washington, signaling a pause in Israel's conflict with Iran-backed Hezbollah that has raged in parallel to the war with Iran.

Nearly 2,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon and over 6,000 wounded, and more than one million people have been displaced.
