MANILA — South Korea’s foreign minister said Thursday that the country will continue pursuing peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula by seeking to resume dialogue with North Korea.

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said South Korea remains committed to promoting peace and shared prosperity through renewed engagement with Pyongyang.

“The Republic of Korea will continue to make every effort to achieve peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity on the Korean Peninsula by resuming dialogue with the DPRK,” Cho said during a meeting of foreign ministers from Southeast Asia, China, Japan, and South Korea.

DPRK, or the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is North Korea’s official name.

Cho made the remarks at the meeting held alongside the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers’ gathering in Manila.
