Senator Padilla says 'tigilan niyo na' to impeach moves vs. Marcos, Duterte

Senator Robinhood Padilla on Wednesday made a call to cease pursuing impeachment efforts against Vice President Sara Duterte and President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., warning that continued political battles only distract lawmakers from addressing the concerns of ordinary Filipinos.

In a Facebook post, Padilla said impeach efforts only deepen political divisions and fuel instability.

“Tigilan niyo na ang mga impeachment,” Padilla wrote, adding that Filipinos are already “fed up” with endless political infighting and power struggles, while long-overdue measures that affect people’s daily lives remain unfinished.

The senator stressed that Congress should instead focus on passing bills that directly address bread-and-butter issues and promote genuine progress, noting that the public continues to wait for meaningful development.

Padilla also warned voters to remember “the faces of those who are causing chaos,” saying that constant impeachment efforts undermine unity and derail the country’s path toward growth.

He reiterated that the time for politics should give way to governance, urging lawmakers to prioritize legislation that delivers tangible benefits rather than engage in what he described as divisive impeachment drives.

In a previous interview, Vice President Sara Duterte said she is anticipating an imminent impeachment complaint against her, claiming that the people behind it are motivated solely by financial gain.

In July 2025, the Supreme Court ruled that the impeachment complaint filed against Duterte by the House of Representatives in February was unconstitutional, citing a violation of due process, and stated that any new impeachment complaint could only be filed beginning February 6, 2026.

Meanwhile, Malacañang said President Marcos respects the filing of an impeachment complaint against him in the House of Representatives, emphasizing that it is part of the democratic process under the Constitution.

Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay filed an impeachment complaint against President Marcos on Monday morning, Jan. 19, marking the first such complaint of his administration.  

In a statement on Monday, Jan. 19, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) acknowledged the right of individuals or groups to file complaints and expressed confidence that Congress, as a coequal branch of government, will act with “honesty, integrity, and fidelity to the rule of law.”
