MANILA — Senator Francis Escudero hailed the convening of the first elected Bangsamoro Parliament as a historic milestone in the country's peace-building efforts, expressing optimism that the legislative body will accelerate peace and socio-economic progress across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

In a statement released Saturday, October 31, 2026, the Bicolano lawmaker emphasized that the successful transition to a fully elected parliament marks a pivotal shift toward long-term stability and democratic governance in the region.

'We hope this parliament will help translate the gains of peace into tangible progress and development for the people it now serves,' Escudero said. 'The true success of this democratic transition will be measured by how it improves the daily lives of ordinary Bangsamoro families.'

The convening of the newly elected parliament comes as part of the broader democratic transition outlined in the Bangsamoro Organic Law, establishing a self-governing regional legislative body responsible for enacting laws that drive regional economic growth, infrastructure development, and community welfare.
