MANILA, Philippines — Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano pushed back against claims that the Taguig Lakeshore development is a waste of public funds, asserting that the facility continues to actively serve the community under the city’s management.

In a statement released on National Heroes Day, Cayetano defended the development, highlighting its ongoing role as a venue for public health, education, recreation, and local business.

“Hindi po sinayang at hindi sinasayang ang Lakeshore. Let’s not let politics rob this generation and future generations of the opportunity to reap its benefits,” Cayetano said, rejecting assertions that the area has been neglected or abandoned.

Cayetano’s remarks come in response to allegations raised by Senator Panfilo Lacson, who claimed that ₱3.713 billion worth of completed, ongoing, and suspended Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects in Taguig—allegedly built on reclaimed land—may have been wasted. Lacson cited potential irregularities and announced plans to refer the findings to the Office of the Ombudsman for further investigation.

Cautioning against the influence of political agendas on corruption and flood control inquiries, Cayetano called for evidence-based probes that prioritize real accountability over partisan rhetoric.

“The honest search for solutions is overshadowed by partisan politics. Corruption and flood control are perfect examples,” Cayetano noted.

He further challenged Lacson to substantiate his claims through formal legal channels rather than public spectacle.

“If there is evidence against DPWH, Taguig, or against me, then present it. Stop the theatrics and let the evidence do the talking set in the proper judicial venue where fairness is assured,” Cayetano said.

Cayetano emphasized that public officials should focus on solving urgent national issues and ensuring public resources yield concrete results for citizens.

“Every hour the government spends on political warfare instead of solving problems is wasted. Every peso spent on projects that do not serve the people is wasted. Every opportunity to reform a broken system sacrificed for personal or partisan advantage is wasted,” he added.
