Senator Alan Peter Cayetano: Fighting for truth comes with a cost

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has acknowledged that his continued pursuit of what he described as truth has come with significant personal sacrifices, but vowed to persist in his efforts toward building a “corrupt-free Philippines” for future generations.

In a Facebook livestream on June 12, 2026, Cayetano said that defending freedom and principle carries real consequences for those who take part in the struggle.

“Ang ating kalayaan ay may cost,” he said.

He further warned that those who resist wrongdoing often face backlash, including public attacks, legal complaints, and even possible imprisonment.

“‘Pag lumaban ka ngayon, may cost. Aapihin ka. Dudurugin ka sa media at social media. Kakasuhan ka. Baka ikulong ka pa,” he added.

Cayetano has repeatedly claimed that the ongoing tensions in the Senate since he assumed the presidency are linked to efforts to regain control of the chamber and the Blue Ribbon Committee, which he believes is central to uncovering alleged anomalies in flood control projects.

He also alleged that members of his bloc were pressured by allies of the administration through threats of legal action if they refused to shift political alignment. He previously cited the case of Senator Jinggoy Estrada, who he said was arrested inside the Senate shortly after insisting he would remain with his bloc.

Despite these developments, Cayetano said he remains committed to pursuing what he called the “whole truth” behind the Senate leadership dispute, the flood control controversy, and ensuring fairness in impeachment proceedings.

“We’re fighting na independent ang Senado at hindi utus-utusan lang ng Malacañang,” he said. “We cannot turn over to you a corrupt-free Philippines ‘pag hindi tayo lumaban.”

He also emphasized that silence or cooperation with misinformation would ultimately cost the nation more, particularly in essential services and opportunities for Filipinos.

“Ang cost will be the millions of Filipinos na hindi mapapagamot kasi nanakaw y’ung panggamot or pang-hospital. Ang cost ay huli na tayo sa education. Ang cost ay y’ung millions who will have to go abroad because walang trabaho,” he warned.

Cayetano reiterated his call for continued resistance, saying the burden of inaction would be felt most heavily by future generations.

“Laban lang po. We have to continue fighting. If we don’t do anything now… ang magsa-suffer nito ay ang next generation,” he added.

He also appealed to fellow lawmakers, journalists, social media users, business leaders, and ordinary citizens to take part in what he described as a collective stand for the country’s future.

“We need more independent heads to stand up and say, ‘Mali na ‘to. Lumaban tayo,’” he said.

Cayetano ended his message by urging Filipinos to pray for freedom from corruption, poverty, and other societal ills, while emphasizing the need for action alongside faith.

“God wants us free. God wants us independent. But God wants us all to be dependent on Him,” he said.

“But we have to put action to our faith. Pray, tapos lumaban at kumilos tayo,” he added.
