President Marcos to PNPA grads: Uphold zero tolerance vs. corruption, abuses

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday urged newly minted police officers to uphold a zero-tolerance stance against corruption and human rights violations.

In his keynote speech at the 47th commencement exercises of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) “Silang Paglaom” Class of 2026 in Silang, Cavite, Marcos urged the 326 new graduates to build public trust in law enforcement through integrity and accountability.

The key directives from the President included:

• Internal accountability: The PNP and NAPOLCOM are instructed to strictly enforce misconduct policies and ensure swift, impartial investigations of erring personnel;

• Public visibility: The PNP is directed to maintain a disciplined presence in communities to rebuild public confidence;

• Institutional reform: Graduates are called upon to "cleanse the ranks" and prevent the actions of a few from damaging the reputation of the entire organization, and

• Constitutional loyalty: Officers were reminded to remain loyal only to the Constitution and the Filipino people, delivering justice fairly, especially to the marginalized.

“While the nation’s trust in the police force has climbed in these last years, there is still room for improvement,” the President said.

“Alam kong marami pa rin sa ating mga mamamayan ay may alinlangan sa kapulisan,” he added, acknowledging continued skepticism among the public.

Marcos said corruption and human rights abuses undermine public safety. “Our security is weakened when the hands sworn to protect are tainted,” the President said. “Kaya dapat baguhin natin ito.”

This year’s top graduate is Van Marie Editha Gundaya Cagasan of Baybay City, Leyte. The "Silang Paglaom" class is expected to uphold the principles of law and order under the administration’s "Bagong Pilipinas" agenda.
