President Marcos orders release of ₱46 billion for over 1,700 infrastructure projects

As President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has issued a directive to fast-track national projects, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released ₱46.22 billion in funding for 1,743 public works projects across the country.

During a recent Palace briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro said the funding release is intended to ensure the uninterrupted implementation of infrastructure projects and prevent any delays.

“Bilang pagtalima sa utos ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. na gawing prayoridad ang pagtatayo ng mga vital infrastructure projects sa bansa… aprubado na ng Department of Budget and Management, sa pangunguna ni Secretary Rolando Toledo, ang pag-release ng PhP46.22 billion na pondo para sa 1,743 infrastructure projects sa buong bansa,” Castro said.

This initiative is part of the administration’s broader effort to accelerate infrastructure development and support economic growth.

According to Castro, funds have been released to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to improve road connectivity and mobility across various regions.

Among the key projects is the Davao City Bypass Construction with an allocation of over ₱288 million for fiscal year 2026.

On the education sector, Castro said Marcos ordered the release of ₱17.27 billion for the construction of 4,960 classrooms nationwide.

This initiative aims to address current shortages and improve learning conditions for students and the DBM has already approved the funds for this Department of Education program.

Castro said the President has directed agencies to ensure that the distribution of financial aid and other government assistance complies with existing laws.

Castro also noted that the Open Government Partnership International, a global initiative promoting transparency and citizen participation in governance, has recognized the Philippines’ efforts in improving public spending practices.

According to Castro, the organization described these changes as “a step forward in making open government standards a practice in the Philippines.”

In support of this, the DBM has issued Circular Letter No. 2026-6. This mandate requires all government agencies, GOCCs, state universities and colleges, and local government units to adopt mechanisms that strengthen transparency, participation, and accountability in government programs and projects.
