President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco as Presidential Adviser for Sustainable and Resilient Communities.

In a statement, Claire Castro, undersecretary of the Presidential Communications Office, clarified that Frasco did not resign as tourism secretary.

Frasco will transition from her role as tourism chief, where she oversaw programs aimed at supporting tourism enterprises and livelihoods while strengthening partnerships with local government units nationwide.

Tourism Undersecretary Verna Buensuceso will temporarily lead the department as officer in charge.

Castro said the President tasked Frasco with strengthening the implementation of priority national initiatives at the community level.

The appointment comes as many parts of the country face increasing climate-related hazards and disruptions that affect local economies and livelihoods.

“The President expressed his appreciation for her service at the Department of Tourism and conveyed confidence that her experience working closely with local governments and communities will continue to support the Administration's priorities,” Castro said.
