PH gov’t allocates over P17 billion for nearly 5,000 classrooms nationwide

The Philippine government has earmarked P17.27 billion for the construction of 4,960 classrooms across the country to address persistent classroom shortages in public schools.

According to Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro, the government has allocated funding to improve learning conditions.

This initiative aims to provide safer and more conducive spaces for students as part of the administration’s broader effort to strengthen the education sector.

Officials have stated that this initiative aligns with efforts to ensure learners have access to adequate facilities.

This support is intended to enhance both academic performance and the overall well-being of students in schools.

The classroom-building program is a key component of our ongoing efforts to address infrastructure gaps in basic education and accommodate our growing student population.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara has announced that 14 provinces may now begin procurement for classroom construction projects. This follows the official signing of the supplemental Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) under the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Classroom Building Program.

the qualified provinces may now begin their respective procurement processes. These provinces include: Ifugao, Sorsogon, Mt. Province, Abra, Quezon, Samar, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, Oriental Mindoro, Biliran, Dinagat Island, Misamis Oriental, Southern Leyte, and Siquijor, may now begin their respective procurement processes.

“Bahagi ito ng direktiba ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos na pabilisin ang pagpapatayo ng mga pasilidad sa edukasyon sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng kapangyarihan sa mga lokal na pamahalaan bilang katuwang sa pagpapatupad nito,” Angara said.
