P10K across-the-board pay increase for public school teachers pushed

MANILA – Senator JV Ejercito is pushing for the passage of a measure seeking to grant an additional PHP10,000 to the basic monthly salary of public school teachers, regardless of their length of service.

In a news release Friday, Ejercito said Senate Bill No. 335 or Dagdag Suweldo Para sa mga Guro (Additional Pay for Teachers) Act seeks to recognize the important role of teachers in educating Filipino children while addressing the financial challenges they face.

“Being a teacher is not easy. They bear a heavy responsibility, yet often make significant sacrifices to fulfill their duties. That is why it is time for us to better show our appreciation for them through a salary increase,” Ejercito said.

“Every day, our teachers do more than just teach. They prepare lessons, check papers, compile reports, and above all, they care for and guide our students. We see their hard work and sacrifices.”

The senator said the measure seeks to help improve the quality of life of teachers, encouraging the best talents to remain in the public education system.

“We cannot achieve quality education if the people on its front lines continue to struggle with their livelihood,” he said.

But beyond the economic benefit, he pointed out that improving teachers’ financial welfare will also make them feel and know that the government values their contribution to society and the education sector.

“To our teachers, we know that your sacrifices cannot be measured by any monetary value. But we want to show you that we have not forgotten you,” Ejercito said. (PNA)
