Britain's King Charles and Queen Camilla on Monday (April 27) attended a garden party at the British Ambassador's Residence in Washington, D.C. after being greeted by U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House.
Before entering the garden party, Charles and Camilla viewed a time capsule created to mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence this year. The capsule will be paired with another which was placed last June under the statue of George Washington in Trafalgar Square, London to start the UK/U.S. America 250th celebration. The other capsule will be placed under the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. later this year.
Charles and Camilla attended the garden party with Britain's ambassador to the U.S., Christian Turner, which had over 600 guests from politics, science and sustainability. Guests included Washington socialites and officials such as U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and ambassadors from other countries. The Ambassador’s Residence first hosted a garden party for King George VI in June 1939.
Britain's King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in the United States on Monday (April 27) for a four-day trip, welcomed by self-proclaimed royal fan Donald Trump even as the U.S. president has differed with the British government over the Iran war.
The state visit, by far the most high-profile and consequential of Charles' reign, marks the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence from British rule.
