The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is preparing criminal charges against the owners of a pet crematorium linked to the dumping of animal carcasses in vacant lots in Bulacan, while seeking an immigration lookout bulletin order against them, Thursday, Nov. 5.
According to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) report, NBI Director Melvin Matibag said two individuals with vital information about the operations of Ahjay Paws Aftercare Crematorium have surrendered and are now in custody.
During a press briefing, Matibag said charges are being prepared based on evidence gathered from the remains of six pets recovered from the dumpsites, out of an initial 25 reported cases.
"We see six charges out of an initial 25 (pets' remains) but we have enough evidence to file charges," Matibag said, adding that he had directed the NBI Environmental Crime Division to secure an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) against the crematorium's owners.
Initial findings showed that the Bacoor City, Cavite-based business had failed to establish adequate facilities to accommodate customers for more than a year before the discovery of the dumpsite, where the supposedly cremated pets were allegedly abandoned.
Matibag added that investigators, in coordination with the local government of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, have identified three locations where animal remains were dumped.
