Lanao del Sur candidates sign 'Peace Covenant' for BARMM elections

COTABATO CITY – Candidates in Lanao del Sur have vowed to help ensure peaceful elections next month as the Philippine National Police and election stakeholders gathered aspirants for a "Peace Covenant" signing, "Unity Walk," Interfaith Rally, and Peace Caravan at the provincial capitol complex in Marawi City.

Col. Caezar Cabuhat, Lanao del Sur police provincial director, in coordination with election stakeholders, led the activities, which also featured a Candidates' Forum on Monday afternoon.

Cabuhat said the activity brought together parliamentary candidates and political party representatives, religious and interfaith leaders, government agencies, security forces, local government officials, and other stakeholders.

"Our candidates took a solemn oath before the Holy Qur'an, committing to peaceful and principled participation, respect for fellow candidates and the electorate, and peaceful acceptance of the election results," Cabuhat said.

A peace covenant signing was held, with candidates and stakeholders reaffirming their shared commitment to uphold peace, unity, and responsible participation throughout the electoral process.

Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia, BARMM police regional director; military and police personnel; election officials; other government agencies; political parties; and various stakeholders joined the events.

Lanao del Sur has the highest identified areas of concern in the coming regional balloting, as reported by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

In his message of support, Abecia underscored the importance of maintaining peace and order throughout the electoral period, emphasizing that political differences should not be a reason for conflict.

"As one BARMM community, let us choose dialogue over division, respect over hostility, and peace over conflict. Together, let us protect the peace and ensure a safe, orderly, and peaceful election for every Bangsamoro," Abecia said. (PNA)
