Iran, through Pakistani mediators, has presented a new proposal to the United States aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and bringing an end to the ongoing conflict, according to a report by Axios on Sunday.

The report, which cited a U.S. official and two sources familiar with the matter, said the proposal separates immediate de-escalation efforts from broader diplomatic issues. Under the plan, negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program would be postponed to a later stage, allowing initial focus on restoring maritime stability and reducing regional tensions.

The proposal highlights renewed backchannel diplomacy involving Pakistan as an intermediary, reflecting ongoing efforts to prevent further disruption in one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital global energy corridor, and any closure or instability in the area has historically raised concerns over international oil supply and security. Talks surrounding its reopening are seen as a key step toward easing broader geopolitical tensions in the region.
