Former DPWH Secretary Bonoan misses court arraignment as he remains hospitalized — PNP

Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan did not appear at his scheduled arraignment before the Sandiganbayan on Thursday (June 4, 2026) due to medical reasons, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

A report of the Philippine News Agency (PNA) cited Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) chief Col. John Guiagui as saying, "We have already coordinated with the Sandiganbayan 5th Division that he (Bonoan) is unable to appear.”

Bonoan was arrested over alleged corruption in flood control projects.

Bonoan was initially confined at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame but was transferred to a private hospital on Tuesday night.

Guiagui said Bonoan will remain under the custody of the PNP until he receives medical clearance for transfer to a regular detention facility.

SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR ESTRADA?

Meanwhile, Gagui addressed rumors that Bonoan's co-accused, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, was receiving "special treatment" from the PNP.

However, the CIDG-NCR chief said the police was unable to find an orange detainee shirt that would fit Estrada during the booking process.

Gagui emphasized that no special treatment was given to the senator. “Nagkataon lang na wala talagang magkasya. Nakita niyo naman 'yung built ng katawan ni Sen. Jinggoy wala magkasya and kailangan na po yung mugshot doon sa pag-deliver ng mga dokumento sa Sandiganbayan. Ganun po ' yun. Wala pong special treatment."
