Former AFP chief Oban sworn in as new national security adviser

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. swore in former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Eduardo Oban Jr. as the country’s new national security adviser, following the retirement of Eduardo Año from government service.

Oban’s appointment is seen as part of the administration’s push to further strengthen national security, enhance defense planning, and improve coordination among government agencies in pursuit of a secure and resilient Philippines.

In his new role, Oban will oversee national security priorities and help ensure continuity in efforts to safeguard the country.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1979, Oban brings with him decades of experience in military operations, defense strategy, and national security.

He previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans (J5) and also headed the Visiting Forces Agreement Commission.
