Filipino women crucial to nation's progress-- President Marcos

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. recognized the vital role of Filipino women in national development as the country marked International Women’s Day.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, March 8, Marcos said, "On International Women’s Day, I want to recognize the Filipino woman. She is a mother, a worker, a leader, and often, she is all of these at the same time."

"The progress of our nation will always carry the imprint of the Filipina, and she deserves a government that works as hard as she does," he added.

In his official message for the celebration, the President said that even before women’s contributions were formally recognized, they had already been shaping the country’s history through their courage, excellence, and devotion.

"In every woman we see strength with grace and grit with compassion—a force that has always been the heartbeat of every nation, shaping its identity, its values, and its future across generations," Marcos said.

He also highlighted the resilience of Filipino women, noting how they often carry multiple responsibilities while continuing to support their families and communities.

"To be a woman is to carry many responsibilities at once. A Filipina does this with resilience and heart, turning obstacles into opportunities and hardship into hope. Where there is care, there is a woman. Where there is sacrifice, there is a Filipina giving her all so that others may have a better future," Marcos said.

"Much of what women do happens away from recognition, yet it is this steady dedication that keeps our nation strong and moving forward," he went on.

Marcos also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering women and ensuring their voices are heard in society.

"We honor her courage, wisdom, and vital role in nation-building, just as we value her achievements, her leadership, and her presence in our lives," he added.

The Chief Executive likewise pledged to continue expanding opportunities for Filipino women so they can fully realize their potential.

"Under this administration, we will continue to expand opportunities, protect rights, and ensure that every Filipina has access to the health, education, and livelihood programs she needs to thrive," Marcos said. "Mabuhay ang kababaihang Pilipino (Long live the Filipino women)."

This year’s International Women’s Day carries the theme “Rights. Justice. Action.”, which, according to the United Nations, calls for stronger efforts to dismantle barriers to equal justice, including discriminatory laws, weak legal protections, and harmful practices and social norms that undermine the rights of women and girls.
