Denmark is facing heightened external threats not seen in many years, according to the country’s military intelligence agency (FE). The agency cited rising geopolitical tensions and growing uncertainty over the U.S. commitment to Europe’s security.
In its annual report released Wednesday, FE warned that "the world's great powers are increasingly prioritizing their own interests and using force to achieve their goals," specifically highlighting Russia and China as nations posing challenges to Denmark.
The agency emphasized that Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine is significantly shaping the security landscape. "At the same time, uncertainty has arisen about the role of the United States as a guarantor of European security, and this will increase Russia's willingness to intensify its hybrid attacks against NATO," FE said.
Despite these concerns, FE reassured that "the military threat from Russia to NATO will increase, even though there is currently no threat of a regular military attack against the Kingdom of Denmark."
The report underscores a shifting security environment in Europe, where traditional alliances are being tested amid global power rivalries. -Anna Ringstrom/Reuters
