Activists use ski slope projection of Trump to denounce Davos meeting

Protesters targeted the World Economic Forum by projecting a giant image of U.S. President Donald Trump onto a Davos ski slope, branding it with the slogan “Spirit of Plutocracy.” The action, organised by Swiss NGO Campax, sought to spotlight concerns over what activists describe as threats to democracy as Trump prepared to attend the forum.

Protesters took aim at the World Economic Forum on Monday (January 19) by projecting a giant image of U.S. President Donald Trump onto a Davos ski slope alongside the slogan "Spirit of Plutocracy".

The light projection was organised by Campax, a Swiss NGO, as activists prepared equipment and positioned the display on the mountainside while skiers passed by.

Itziar Maranon, manager of Campax, said Trump was visiting Davos at a time where he was "destroying democracy" at home.

The protest aimed to highlight resistance against what organisers see as attacks on democracy.

Trump is expected to meet global business leaders in Davos on Wednesday (January 21), with his presence looming large over the annual gathering of the global elite in Switzerland.

The protest took place as security measures were visible around the forum, with snipers positioned on rooftops surrounding the venue.
