Manuel Lapid

Manuel "Lito" Lapid’s journey to the Senate is a testament to a working democracy. 

Transitioning from a celebrated career as a silver screen action star to a seat in the Upper Chamber, Lapid entered an environment traditionally reserved for the highly lettered. 

Despite having little formal higher education, he embraced the mandate of the electorate, actively dispelling skepticism through solid legislative performance and a dedicated focus on grassroots advocacy.

Throughout his early terms in the Senate, Lapid established himself as a dependable lawmaker championing the underprivileged.

In the 14th Congress, he ranked 4th among his peers in the total number of bills and resolutions filed.

In the 15th Congress: Filed 239 measures, earning distinction as the 5th most prolific member of the Upper Chamber.

He has served as the Chairman of the Committee on Games, Amusement and Sports, focusing heavily on grassroots sports programs, and as Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, where he pushed to boost the Philippines' regional competitiveness.

• Free Legal Assistance Act of 2010: Guarantees lower-income citizens access to free, high-quality legal counsel.

• Kindergarten Education Act: Institutionalized kindergarten into the basic education system.

• Meat Labeling Act of 2011: Enforced transparency and standards in meat product labeling.

• Adopt-A-Wildlife Species ActCreated frameworks to protect endangered species through public-private partnerships.
