MANILA – The National Anti-Poverty Commission–Persons with Disabilities Sectoral Council (NAPC-PWDSC) on Friday called for accountability and corrective action over alleged mockery of autistic individuals on the “Machong Chismisan” podcast.

In a statement, the council said ridiculing people because of their disabilities reinforces harmful stereotypes, perpetuates discrimination, and undermines efforts to build an inclusive society.

The statement followed criticism of podcast co-host Tito P over remarks about Joshua, the eldest son of actress Kris Aquino, who is on the autism spectrum. The remarks were made in the Oct. 5, 2026, episode titled “Ang Pagbabalik ni Kris Aquino.”

“Persons with disabilities, including autistic individuals, deserve dignity, respect, and equal protection under the law,” the council said.

It cited Republic Act 7277, as amended by Republic Act 9442, or the Magna Carta for Persons with Disability, which addresses public ridicule and vilification of persons with disabilities.

Sections 39 and 40 address public ridicule, including acts of making fun of or mocking people because of their disabilities, particularly when these may intimidate them or undermine their self-esteem.

Sections 41 and 42 address vilification, including abusive statements and public activities that incite hatred, serious contempt, or severe ridicule against persons with disabilities.

“We encourage accountability, meaningful dialogue, and appropriate corrective action, including a sincere public apology if warranted,” the council said.

It urged the public to promote disability awareness, challenge harmful stereotypes and create safe, respectful spaces for autistic individuals and their families.

The council also said authorities should assess any possible violation based on the actual content, available evidence and applicable legal requirements, while ensuring due process for all parties.

“Respect for persons with disabilities is not optional. Disability is not a punchline. Every person deserves dignity, inclusion, and equal protection under the law,” it added.
