Fresh off the box-office success of “The Loved One,” Anne Curtis will trade romance for psychological horror in "Remote," Mikhail Red's upcoming thriller.

Anne stars as Violet Olvido, a journalist who uncovers a series of killings linked to a secretive outsourcing company that recruits remote workers across the Philippines. Undercover, as she goes deeper within the organization, her investigation begins to distort her sense of reality.

The Filipino actress is no stranger to the horror and thriller genre. She previously starred in the 2018 MMFF horror thriller “Aurora” and the classic horror anthology “Wag Kang Lilingon.”

Beyond her success as a TV and movie actress, model and TV host, the 41-year-old has endorsed various local and global brands aside from receiving accolades throughout her career. Anne's recent movie, “The Loved One,” grossed more than ₱300 million earlier this year.

"Remote,"produced by Viva Films and Evolve Studios, will start production later this year. According to Variety, Red said the story was inspired by his observations of the remote work set-up that grew after the pandemic.

He pointed to the “rise of online digital nomads” working three shifts, often as virtual assistants for Western companies. Attracted by better pay due to the high exchange rate, these 'digital nomads" are sometime exposed to exploitation in areas which are gray.

For him, the film also explores bigger questions about control, fear, and what he describes as the “colonization of consciousness” and the “weaponization of fear.”

Red added that the upcoming film marks a return to the kind of crime and investigation-driven storytelling he explored earlier in his career. He described it as revisiting those themes through psychological horror and paranoia, adding that it may be the closest he has come to making a serial killer film— something he has long wanted to do.

Mikhail Red is known for directing horror and genre films such as “Eerie,” “Nokturno,” “Lilim,” and "Deleter.”
