Villar land donation expected to boost impact of LRT-1 Cavite Extension — Manny Pangilinan

The Villar family’s donation of land to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will maximize the impact of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension by expanding transit access outside Metro Manila, according to Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.

Pangilinan emphasized that efficient rail infrastructure is critical to bridging the gap between suburban residential hubs and the capital’s central business districts.

“I think it will help out the population in the outlying areas if you have good public transportation because the jobs are here in Manila, right?” Pangilinan said.

He noted that reliable public transit enables suburban residents to access major employment centers without facing the steep living expenses associated with residing closer to urban centers.

“When you [live closer] to the jobs, you save on expenses. But you need to have a good public transportation,” he added.

Intended to support key infrastructure for the LRT-1 expansion, the land donation aims to provide Cavite commuters with a faster, cheaper alternative to congested road traffic while broadening access to regional economic opportunities.
