Trump says there 'can never be a deal with Iran' if Strait of Hormuz blockade lifted

U.S. President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post on Tuesday (April 21) that Iran wanted the Strait of Hormuz reopened to avoid losing oil revenue, but said he would keep it "totally BLOCKADED" amid ceasefire talks.

The post came hours after Trump said he would indefinitely extend a ceasefire with Iran to allow more time for diplomacy in the seven-week-old war.

Trump said Pakistan had asked him to delay a planned U.S. attack so Iranian leaders and representatives could work on a unified proposal.

Iranian officials, however, publicly rejected the idea that Tehran had sought a ceasefire extension and reiterated threats to break the U.S. blockade by force.
